The young and inexperienced UCLA Bruins took it to the Michigan State Spartans, who were ranked #2 during preseason.
Ben Howland prepared these guys for a battle and it wasn’t pretty at times. The beginning of the game was very sluggish by both teams but the Bruins capitalized on a couple of turnovers.
The Bruins took a 42-24 lead into the half. Tyler Honeycutt lead the Bruins with 9 points at the half.
The 2nd half began with a run by the Spartans that cut the lead down to 12 points before the Bruins went on an 11-0 run.
The Spartans hit a 3 pointer to make the score 77-76 UCLA with only 4.4 seconds left. There wasn’t enough time for the Spartans to make the 23-point comeback.
UCLA didn’t finish strong but they managed to pull out the victory. They will face the #2 Florida Gators in the round of 32.
Box Score: UCLA 78 MSU 76
