>Mike Brown on Lopez Tonight

>Last night, Mike Brown appeared on “Lopez Tonight” and talked with George Lopez about the future of the Los Angeles Lakers.

I think this is great for Mike Brown and Lakers fans. We get a chance to learn more about our new head coach and he gives us an insight of what to expect for the upcoming basketball season. (If there is a season)

>Shaquille O’Neal Announces Retirement

Shaquille O’Neal has just announced that he will be retiring after a 19 year career.

He just released a video on his twitter feed.

“We did it,” said O’Neal. “Nineteen years, baby. I want to thank you very much. That’s why I’m telling you first, I’m about to retire. Love ya. Talk to you soon.”

One of the greatest big men to ever play the game. Hopefully the Lakers will have a ceremony to retire his jersey this upcoming season. I’m very grateful that I was able to witness Shaq and Kobe win 3 championships in a row.

We will see the Big Diesel in the Hall of Fame very soon.

>Will The Lakers Land Dwight Howard Next Season?

Dwight Howard’s current contract expires after the 2012-2013 season but he has a player option which allows him to leave a year earlier.

After a first round loss to the Atlanta Hawks this season, why would Dwight want to stay in Orlando any longer? They seem to be going backwards the past 3 seasons.

From the NBA Finals to a first round exit. He wants to win championships and he can’t do that with the players around him right now. They aren’t built to win in the playoffs.

They traded away Hedu Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis, Mickael Pietrus, Marcin Gortat, Courtney Lee, and Rafer Alston. That was their core when they made a run for the championship against the Lakers in 2009.

Sure they got Hedu back but he’s not the same. They have no one to back-up Dwight anymore. Ryan Anderson & Brandon Bass aren’t getting the job done. They have a bunch of role players that are decent but they won’t be able to get back to the Finals unless they add a superstar.

Possible Scenarios

1) Dwight signs extension to stay in Orlando.

I can only see this happen if the Magic get another superstar to join Dwight. The Magic have to convince Dwight that they will do whatever it takes to win a championship in Orlando.

2) Dwight becomes a free agent next off-season and teams up with either Chris Paul or Deron Williams.

If he keeps quiet the entire 2011-2012 season, then Dwight can decline his player option and become a free agent. Point guards, Chris Paul and Deron Williams, also have player options with their teams after the 2011-12 season. All three players will most likely decline in order to explore a possibility of teaming up. This would give Dwight an option to play with at least one of the best point guards in the league.

3) Dwight expresses his desire to be traded. He won’t re-sign with the Magic, but allows them to trade him.

I hope this happens. Why? Because the Los Angeles Lakers would be in the mix. He wants to win a championship and the Lakers have been playing in the championship for the past 3 seasons.

Andrew Bynum would have to be a part of the deal that brings Dwight to Los Angeles.
It’s the Orlando Magic’s best option of replacing Dwight.

I can see it now:

Los Angeles Lakers trade Andrew Bynum, Shannon Brown (If he accepts his player option), Devin Ebanks and future draft picks to the Orlando Magic for Dwight Howard.

The Magic can’t let Dwight leave Orlando without getting anything in return. I’ve read that the Magic can possibly ask for Lamar Odom to be included in the deal.

Dwight Howard would be following the footsteps of Shaquille O’Neal.

>Lamar Odom Wins 6th Man of the Year

Congrats to Lamar Odom on winning the 6th Man of the Year award.

After being snubbed from the All-Star game, i’m sure this award will make Odom happy about the 2010-11 season. Another championship would help as well.
At the beginning of the season, Lamar started 35 games in place of Andrew Bynum, who was recovering from knee surgery. I didn’t really expect Lamar to be consistent all season long. He played outstanding and helped the Lakers clinch the #2 in the Western Conference.

Odom averaged 14.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and three assists per game. He also became the first Laker in the history of the franchise to win this award.

>Lakers Playoff Scenarios

After last night’s win against the San Antonio Spurs, the Lakers locked up at least the #3 seed in the West Conference.

The standings as of right now:
(2) Los Angeles Lakers 56-25
(3) Dallas Mavericks 56-25
(4) Oklahoma City Thunder 55-26

(6) Portland Trail Blazers 48-33 *Locked up 6 spot; but still play Lakers if they fall to 3.
(7) New Orleans Hornets 46-35
(8) Memphis Grizzlies 46-35

Lakers to clinch (2) spot:
Lakers WIN or Mavericks LOSS
Mavericks to clinch (2) spot:
Mavericks WIN & Lakers LOSS
Mavericks clinch (3) spot:
Mavericks WIN & Lakers WIN
Mavericks LOSS & Thunder LOSS
Thunder clinch (3) spot:
Thunder WIN & Mavericks LOSS
Hornets clinch (7) spot:
Hornets WIN
Hornets LOSS & Grizzlies LOSS
Grizzlies clinch (7) spot:
Grizzlies WIN & Hornets LOSS
If Lakers/Mavericks tie = Lakers
If Lakers/Thunder tie = Lakers
If Mavericks/Thunder tie = Thunder
If Hornets/Grizzlies tie = Hornets

Tonight’s Games:
NO Hornets @ DAL Mavericks (5:00pm) *ESPN
MIL Bucks @ OKC Thunder (5:00pm)
LA Lakers @ SAC Kings (7:30pm)
MEM Grizzlies @ LA Clippers (7:30pm) *ESPN

If the Hornets beat the Mavericks tonight. Then the Lakers will face the Hornets in the first round of the playoffs.

That’s what i’m hoping for since they don’t have David West and the Lakers are (4-0) against them this season.

Also since that game is before the Lakers/Kings, Phil Jackson can rest some of the starters. That’s only if the Hornets win their game.
